USA HAS BOTH THE WORST EXAMPLE AND THE COMPLETE ANSWER TO HEALTH CARE REFORM IN PLAY RIGHT NOW

In the US, we use a substandard health care system (unless you have a good job with insurance, or you are wealthy--then, it's fine) , while we have--at the same time,  a working system in place that is the answer to our prayers and solves problem! It is in place and we use it. This is amazing.

It is absolutely fascinating that our current health care system sucks and is one of the most expensive and least effective in the developed world. We spend sometimes TWICE what other first world countries do and get far inferior results.

Plus we have 35 to 50 MILLION uninsured, for whom we all pay for their health care.

Taiwan, as it grew in money and sophistication, started a worldwide study, in depth, to figure out what the solution was. They were going to start from scratch.

12 prominent physicians led the search.

Read what Taiwan did, after this extensive study. (credit an excellent article from Wikipedia) - there is a ton of stuff available for you to look at.

Taiwan started its health reform in the 1980s .Taiwan looked at more than ten countries and combined their best qualities to form their own unique system.

  • Dr. Michael Chen, Vice President and CFO of Taiwan's National Health Insurance Bureau explained that one of the models investigated was the United States and that fundamentally, NHI "is modeled after Medicare [in the USA].

  • And there are so many similarities – other than that our program covers all of the population, and Medicare covers only the elderly.

  • US Medicare is the way to go to have social insurance."[6][7] NHI delivers universal coverage.

  •  The working population pays premiums split with their employers, others pay a flat rate with government help and the poor or veterans are fully subsidized.

  • Taiwan’s citizens no longer have to worry about going bankrupt due to medical bills.[8]

  • Under this model, citizens choose hospitals and physicians without a gatekeeper. NHI offers a comprehensive benefit package that covers preventive medical services, prescription drugs, dental services, Chinese medicine, home nurse visits and many more.
[my note-Medicare generally does not cover dental and glasses or hearing]

  • Working people do not have to worry about losing their jobs or changing jobs because they will not lose their insurance. Since NHI, the previously uninsured have increased their usage of medical services. Most preventive services are free such as annual checkups and maternal and child care.
