Interestingly, we still make/manufacturer a great number of things here in the US. Production industries are actually robust. We are still a powerhouse of production. BUT, a huge difference today, from just a few years ago, is that we do not do that with more PEOPLE. FEWER people in fact. Certainly FAR FEWER unskilled, minimum wage, non-tech, low-level staff. We do it with automation, computerization, networked artificial intelligence. Even things like coal mining are almost completely automated and AI controlled. Retail is shifting to online/pick-up. Likewise food service & grocery. The problem is that we are not training people with the tech skills to flow with this universal reality. A fast food outlet, 10 years from now, will not be staffed with teenagers and minimum wagers... it will have automated cooking, inventory, serving, money processing-- and be staffed with just a few people-who keep the machinery humming. And maybe a couple people to unload stuff and mop the floor. The reality of manufacturing and retail delivery of goods and services is far fewer low end, unskilled, minimum wagers--- the future will belong to those with technical skills and AI understanding.
