The liberals rail in shock about pussy grabbing, lies, ethical boondoggles, sexism, racism, birthirism, Twitter rants-- and then don't understand why these "Belt" people don't care about any of that. They even cheer it. It is a way of screaming "screw you" at the 'latte limousine liberals', who they think took all their stuff away and make fun of them.
There are a plethora of reasons. Entertainment media portray it that way. The Walmart economy has crushed them. They never recovered from 2009. There are no more tire plants. Coal mines are robotic. They are a class of barely literate "high school graduates." $50 an hour jobs evaporated to technology. Underlying all of that, they THINK they know all about "real life"- but, in point of fact, compared to the first world, they haven't a clue. A stupid person who doesn't understand they are stupid is dangerous.
Most of the people in the US do not travel to other countries. They do not read varied sources or genres. 70% ++ don't even have a Passport, and fewer still go anywhere IN the country. A huge majority of the populace thinks Epcot is good exposure to other cultures. Or that Olive Garden is real Italian food. They think that the NCIS runs the police and the FBI runs the government.
As the years pass, reduced sophistication, eroding education and lack of travel have rendered a large swath of our population more like country-bumpkin rubes, when compared to the middle income populations of Europe & Scandinavia.
Our infrastructure is decaying , while other countries install communications, high speed rail, new airports, medical facilities-- we do not. But most people here don't know that, because they've never been anywhere, and they don't even watch educational travelogues. They want to build a Wall and have "Mexico pay for it"-- but they don't know anything about Mexico, economics, Central America-- really nothing. (Failure to control the southern border is an obvious cock up, belonging to 50 years of stooge-ism, by both parties).
Their world is limited to their job, church and TV set. They believe the Earth is 7000 years old and they plan trips to “NOAHs Ark”, to stand in awe of the Lord. They hate the latte liberals, who they view as dangerous atheists. They would also think they were dangerous agnostics, but do t know what that word means.
We are dragging our asses waaaayyy behind. Really. That isn't true in the first world elsewhere. For example, in Iceland, you seldom see anyone watch television, and certainly not mindless sap. Most stream news on internet devices and spend time in meaningful conversations. Thy are not overrun with drunken “sports bars”, or silly pizza huts, playing FOX
