SANCTUARY CITIES AND THE THREE STOOGES

I wrote this for you, after watching some MSM interaction on "sanctuary cities"

"Sanctuary cities" is a favorite term for conservative immigration discussion... it is portrayed as a city that thumbs its nose at the INS, ICE and conceals criminal aliens from deportation.

In reality, it is complex. Larger cities have immigrant populations, legal and illegal. Mostly, they work, live and commit no crimes. The police and service organizations in the cities need them to report crimes, to participate in terrorism investigations, to act as witnesses and identifiers--and suppliers of information on crimes and terrorists--and if the police check "papers" and arrest everyone that is potentially "illegal" for the ICE, then that will all stop.

NO CITY suggests that serious criminals not be apprehended and deported--and all of them arrest and report those who are arrested for violent or serious criminal offenses, and they go to ICE. New York, as an example, specifically lists the offenses for which they conduct the immigration status and turn over people to the Feds.

If every interaction with the police or officials ends with citizenship investigations and deportation, No one in the immigrant class will talk to the police, for their own protection, or for the protection of a friend or family. The police and the citizens will be much less safe. The police and the government need these people to operate and keep it all safer.

Then, if Trump takes away federal funding from these cities, because they keep on with "sanctuary"--then, a truly unintended consequence happens, because the dollars they will lose are largely PUBLIC SAFETY DOLLARS...so the police and others in terrorism and public safety will have LESS resources!

On top of that, as people are "apprehended" who have done nothing but be here, there will be a rash of instances where adults will be imprisoned and deported, with children and dependents left behind, without financial support--families torn apart and a social network called upon to step in---with less money.

This is a situation requiring a nuanced and thoughtful approach. Nuanced and thoughtful is not what you are going to get out of Trump, Flynn and Bannon, the three stooges of policy and Constitutional Law.
