Driving up through Alabama, where even the Department of Transportation doesn't understand the rules of grammar or logic, one finds oneself on the "WAR ON TERROR HIGHWAY"
Perpetually, we are now at "war"- but rather than fighting for literacy, voting rights, ending hunger, being better world citizens-- or helping our own children- we are engaged in this murky, unknown "war" where we can have our police dressed like military assault troops to serve traffic warrants, build 20B$ aircraft carriers we don't need and breed a huge, sucking, secret bureaucracy under HSD, about which no one even dares ask.
George Orwell was 100% correct, he was just 50 years too early.
Below is the real "war on terror highway" - this is what we did and left in Iraq, Afghanistan and ...yes, even Vietnam. This is what we now do. This is how we spend our treasure.
