BOY SCOUTING IN THE 60'S - THEN AND NOW

When I was a boy scout, we camped in old army surplus tents, out in the woods, near real streams and rivers, with canoes and played kick-the-can until we were scratched raw and covered with insect bites.

We baked biscuits in foil from scratch. We learned to use our knives to cut and lash twigs into instruments. We hiked on trails each day, 5 to 10 miles for merit badges. We learned first aid, latrine use, lashing, hand axes, compass use, astronomy, canoeing, camp cooking--now, 'Boy Scouts' camp in a fake  "Fort Wilderness" at DisneyWorld, walk pretty much nowhere, cook nothing, learn nothing, ride in golf carts, scream for sugared packaged food and hike to Disney.
