Yesterday, I watched and listened as this panel derisively sneered at the idea the “wall” was a “4th century solution” to a non-existent problem. They thought that was a funny talking point for snowflakes. They sniggered at each other, or nodded knowingly. Again and again they referred to the “crisis” on the southern border, without ONCE admitting illegal immigration is at a decades low, or that most illegal immigration is VISA overstays.
Repeatedly, they referred to the caravans of Central Americans, segued into suggesting a connection with terrorism, drug trafficking and gangs, when they know that NONE of that is true. Talking about some young, frightened men and women (who likely won’t qualify for asylum anyway, probably), looking to come north and make money, live safely and bring their familes— escaping real danger / poverty—and then somehow starting to talk about MS13 gangs in Long Island was fascinating spin and bullshit, designed to frighten and divide.
With not a shred of factual data, they repeated the lies of the DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Sarah Sanders, claiming that “thousands” of terrorists are stopped at the border—-when that is not only a complete lie, but is contrary to the research and statistics produced by her own Department of Homeland Security. More ofnthe same on drugs. Lies about drugs “poiring” across the southern border when, in fact, most come through ports and airportsmor by sea/water. Terrorists? Indeed, in the last half of 2018, 5 or 6 people were stopped at the border who were on the ‘watch list’ and NONE were terrorists or ‘middle easterners’ ... whatever that means.
Not ONE WORD that the primary problem of illegal immigration today is VISA violations and overstays. People arrive here on perfectly lawful VISAs and disappear into the populace. Arriving at airports. Not a shred of connection to the southern border, any more than the birder with Canada. It’s ridiculous.
Then, the one panel began to almost gleefully support and dissect the idea that Trump, for this made up emergency, might declare a National Emergency and thereby thwart the Congress and the will of the majority, to end-run the kaw and the constitution with a fake blast of nonsense, and secure funding and buikd the wall anyway, like some kind of dictator, they foud that amusing and efficent.
After a couple of hours, whre lies were supported, facts were ignored, conclusions were reached without analysis or reason...and contradictions between obvious truth and what the top people in Trumps corrupt administration say, I turned it off.
It is sick and dangerous. Just like Trump.
