FICTION, FEAR AND FANTASY.

At some point, because of fiction, fear & fantasy, rather than because of truth, "this-became-this"

The service basis for police work, the idea that we "protect & serve" has changed to we "are armed occupiers of an enemy territory" -- like being in Germany, two days after WWII.

Get it straight. Police work is not particularly dangerous It is safer now more than any time since the 60's. Violent crime is at its lowest since the 70's. It is more dangerous just to LIVE in most big cities, than to be a police officer. We do NOT need an "armed occupier" mentality. Police officers, generally, are not shot, do not shoot, are not in life-threatening situations every day...it is all just baloney. They quell disturbances, write tickets, direct traffic, answer false burglar alarms, give directions-- and yes. Now and then, things heat up. They have to think quickly and make important decisions under pressure. And it is a voluntary job. Please quit and go to work at Winn Dixie, if you don't like it.

"...the job of police officer has been getting progressively safer for a generation. Last year was the safest year for cops since the early 1960s. And it isn’t just because the police are carrying bigger guns or have better armor. Assaults on police officers have been dropping over the same period. Which means that not only are fewer cops getting killed on the job, people in general are less inclined to try to hurt them. Yes, working as a police officer is still more dangerous than, say, working as a journalist. (Or at least a journalist here in the U.S.) But a cop today is about as likely to be murdered on the job as someone who merely resides in about half of the country’s 75 largest cities...."
