THE POLICE DO NOT NEED MORE POWER OR LATITUDE

We exist in the safest time of the past 75 years, or more, in the US. Crime rates are lower, incidents of violence against the police are down, violent crime is down, and--despite the BS rhetoric to the contrary, the land is not awash in thugs and foreigners, overrunning the police, thwarting them at every juncture. That is TV nonsense. Further, the police in our country do NOT need more authority or latitude. They have plenty of authority and myriad protections in place to do their job quite effectively. The street level encounters between agents of the government, coercive agents--armed and with the authority to deprive you of your liberty (or life), are the most important place at which the vectors of our constitutional protections cross. It is there that the citizen is the most vulnerable and needs the maximum protection from overreach. This kid of ruling is contrary to the actual needs of law enforcement and does the legal equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders and a "no big deal", from the likes of that moron Clarence Thomas. I hope we can elect Hillary, or Bernie, or someone, who will choose Justices who can read, write and think. Instead of corrupt drunks like Scalia, and twinkles like Thomas.
