I needed a little Honda camping generator. Into a small hardware store in Maine, to buy, using AMEX. Not so fast, Happy Camper! "I need your drivers license" -- I need to make a copy of your drivers license and the credit card, is that OK?"
Me: "NO. Of course not. Take the money; give me the generator. Were done."
Him: "can't do that...Homeland Security makes us get ID for generators and other survival gear; and we have to have it or they come down on us..."
Me: "what is the legal basis for this"
Him: "I don't know, but without a DL and a credit card copy, and your signature, no generator"
