Currently, the TeaBags are in an uproar about ACA. The same uproar, with all the same words and scare tactics they have used, every single time there is an attempt to construct a social safety net.

I think the truth is probably that this issue faces so few people, not much thought was given to it. ACA was not devised to provide access to quality care for people who already had access to quality care. Boiled down, this is almost a non-issue, in the scheme of getting insurance available for 40 million people --who currently use the ER as their primary care, costing us double, as a nation, for medical care. Now, yes, there are some people who had their own coverage and Obama stupidly made the unequivocal statement that they could keep it...

Let's get right out front with this truth. The Republicans have fought against social safety nets, retirement, disability (SSA in the 30's), help for widows and orphans (read newspapers from the 30's on SSA etc)-- and fought tooth and nail to oppose Medicare ("the end of our freedoms") in the 60's.....health care for the poor (Medicaid) and they do not, generally, even WANT anything or any of this being provided by the government.
People who were paying for their health insurance and liked their plan wanted to keep them. And they can. Except that the insurance companies are canceling them, because these people are eligible for ACA. I don't think that it was a lie. I think it was a careless misstatement, about a tiny slice of the involved parties, and was stupid of Obama, in retrospect. The rollout disaster was triple stupid and needless hassle and press for the NutJob morons. The really important things are eradicating pre existing condition abuse, ending caps, ending dropping people when they are really sick, profiteering, and spreading risk more effectively-- this is the important thing. These are the things Republicans have never wanted or cared about-- even now, as they are cashing their own government disability and SSA checks.
