Unfortunately, the problems associated with this silly, pointless "war on marijuana" mirror that of the entire failed criminal justice system.
It over-criminalizes low-level, victimless offenses. It does not deter. It's VERY costly. It results in United States (notoriously) being the world's largest jailer. We have 25% of the world's prison population with only 5% of the world ACTUAL population. Not to mention the millions under court supervision (probation), at huge cost.
There are many more efficient ways to ensure our safety than keeping 2 million people behind bars! This especially true when many were productive workers & first offenders of non-violent, victimless crimes.
